A rare seven-inch single by The Poets, a 1960s Glasgow band, is fetching nearly £700 on the collectors' market. The track 'That's The Way It's Got To Be' is listed for up to £659.50 on Discogs, driven by its rarity and the resurgence of vinyl.
Ewen Duncan, owner of Europa Music in Stirling, Scotland's largest vinyl store, attributes the high price to the single's scarcity and condition. 'The Poets have always been well respected and a very collectible band,' he said, noting that fans value the tactile and analogue experience of vinyl.
The Poets, once dubbed the Scottish Rolling Stones, were managed by Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham. They reached No. 31 on the UK charts in 1964 with 'Now We're Thru'. Frontman George Gallacher died in 2012 at age 68.
The single's popularity reflects a broader vinyl revival, with UK sales hitting their highest level since 1990. Despite streaming dominance, vinyl sales rose for the 16th consecutive year, driven by collectibility and sound quality.
