Viewers of The Masked Singer have been quick to identify the celebrity behind the Toastie costume, with many convinced it is Loose Women star Brenda Edwards. The character made their debut on Sunday night's episode of the ITV singing competition, performing Walk This Way by Run-D.M.C. for judges Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Maya Jama and Mo Gilligan.
Before taking to the stage, Toastie dropped several clues, including that they had worked in a bakery, were from Liverpool, celebrated their birthday on August 20, and had appeared on a talent show. Following the performance, the judges offered their guesses: Davina suggested Craig Phillips, Jonathan thought Fergie or Jennifer Hudson, Maya guessed Emelie Sande, and Mo proposed Rebecca Ferguson.
However, fans on social media were united in their belief that Toastie is Brenda Edwards, who rose to fame on The X Factor and later became a panellist on Loose Women. One viewer wrote on X: 'Calling it now, Toastie is Brenda Edwards,' while another said: 'I'm going with Brenda Edwards for Toastie.' A third added: 'Toastie - Brenda Edwards.'
The first episode of the new series also saw The One Show's Alex Jones unmasked as Disc Jockey, after she performed Chappell Roan's Pink Pony Club. Jones dedicated her performance to her children, saying: 'Teddy, Kit and Annie, this was for you. I hope that you've loved it.' She added that she wanted to show them that 'overcoming fear is a good thing.'
Other characters still in the competition include Gargoyle, Red Panda, Can of Worms, Moth, and Sloth. New performers set to appear in the next episode include Monkey Business, Teabag, Yak, Arctic Fox, and Conkers. The Masked Singer continues on ITV1 and ITVX on Saturdays and Sundays at 6.30pm.
