Marcus Mumford, frontman of Mumford & Sons, has opened up about his admiration for his wife, actor Carey Mulligan, describing her as 'a legend'. The 39-year-old musician, who formed the band in 2007, also discussed the physical toll of contact sports he played as a child, saying that injuries to his shoulders, knees, and ankles are the single thing that would improve his quality of life if he didn't have them.
Reflecting on his past, Mumford recalled working in farming in Somerset at age 18 as the worst job he's done, noting that feeding chickens in sleet was hard but edifying. He also shared a near-death experience involving rolling a quad bike.
The singer, who has three children with Mulligan, said he wants to leave them 'a spirit of generosity'. He revealed that his family has a rule against using the word 'hate', and when asked whom he despises, he replied, 'We have a rule in our house where we don’t say hate.'
Mumford also recounted an embarrassing moment during an early TV appearance in America on the Craig Ferguson show, where he forgot the lyrics to 'Little Lion Man' and broke two guitar strings. He cited his greatest achievement as being named Football Player of the Year for the 4th XI in 2002.
The musician, whose band recently scored their third No 1 album with 'Rushmere' in 2025, said he doesn't care much about legacy externally but cares within his family. He described infinity as something that keeps him awake at night, admitting he can't get his head around it.
