The father of a 45-year-old man who died after falling from an upper tier at Wembley Stadium during an Oasis tribute concert has described him as a 'lovely bloke' and a 'hard-working family man'. Lee Claydon, a landscape gardener from Bournemouth, Dorset, died on Saturday after reportedly slipping at the venue.
His father, Clive Claydon, 75, expressed his devastation, saying Lee 'loved his kid' and 'had everything going for him'. He stated that Lee had attended the concert with his brother and his brother’s children, and may have consumed alcohol but had not taken drugs. 'It was just an accident,' he said, while raising concerns about safety measures at Wembley, noting slippery floors and questions about barriers.
A fundraising page set up for Lee’s partner, Amanda, and son, Harry, has raised over £7,000. Lee’s brother Aaron wrote that the family has been 'turned upside down' and described Lee as a 'role model to his son' and 'the man I have always looked up to'.
Wembley Stadium stated it operates to a 'very high health and safety standard' and works closely with authorities. The Metropolitan Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with mobile phone footage to come forward. Oasis also expressed shock and sadness, extending condolences to the family.
