The BBC has confirmed that its hit comedy series 'Mammoth' will return for a third series, with filming set to begin in Wales later this year. The show, which first aired in 2024, follows PE teacher Tony Mammoth, who was frozen in an avalanche in 1979 and wakes up in the modern world.
Starring Mike Bubbins as Tony Mammoth and Sian Gibson as his daughter, the series has been praised by viewers and critics alike. One critic called it 'an absolute gem of a comedy', while a Reddit user described it as 'one of the best recent comedies'.
The new series will consist of five episodes. According to the BBC, Tony will continue to struggle to find his place in society, but his thin skin and inability to keep his thoughts to himself often land him in trouble.
Mike Bubbins said: 'I can’t wait for people to see the next adventures in the life of Tony Mammoth. He’s back funnier, bolder, and dafter than ever.' He added that he never dreamed the show would get a third series when he first came up with the idea.
Jon Petrie, the BBC's director of comedy, described the series as 'warm, daft, joyful and full of heart', and said the broadcaster is proud to support original comedy from Wales. 'Mammoth' will air on BBC iPlayer, BBC Two and BBC One Wales.
