Mammoth BBC Comedy Returns for Third Series: A Hit with Fans
Mammoth BBC Comedy Returns for Third Series

The BBC has confirmed the return of a hit comedy that had viewers 'howling' with laughter. Mammoth, a series about a PE teacher from the 1970s getting a second chance at life, will be back for a third series. Filming is set to take place in Wales later this year.

What Is Mammoth About?

Starring Mike Bubbins as Tony Mammoth and Sian Gibson as his daughter, the show follows the teacher whose body was discovered frozen in time after he was thought to have died in an avalanche during a school trip in 1979. He then attempts to rebuild his life in a world that has completely changed.

What to Expect in Series Three

The BBC says the next series, consisting of five episodes, will see Tony still trying to find his place in society. However, due to his thin skin and inability to keep his thoughts to himself, he often puts his big retro shoes in it on all fronts.

Mike Bubbins expressed his excitement: 'I can't wait for people to see the next adventures in the life of Tony Mammoth. He's back funnier, bolder, and dafter than ever. When I first came up with the idea, I didn't dream that in a few years it would be back for a third series.'

Josh Cole, CCO of BBC Studios fiction and comedy, added: 'We're delighted to be delving deeper into Mammoth without leaning too far into the traumatic decades he spent frozen alive in the ice. We're so proud of this show: a big, bold, laugh out loud creation from a unique voice.'

Critical and Audience Reception

The BBC's director of comedy Jon Petrie described the series as 'warm, daft, joyful and full of heart'. Audiences have taken Tony Mammoth and his ridiculous misadventures to heart. One IMDb user called it 'a cracking comedy', and a Reddit user said it was 'one of the best recent comedies'. Another viewer commented: 'I was howling with laughter.'

Mammoth will return for a third series on BBC iPlayer, BBC Two, and BBC One Wales.
