Macy Gray's dramatic exit from The Masked Singer UK on Saturday night was not her first brush with controversy on the show. The 57-year-old singer, known for her hit 'I Try', stormed off stage after being eliminated, leaving host Joel Dommett to fill the silence before she returned for the unmasking.
This behaviour echoes a similar incident on the Australian version of the show in 2021, where Gray appeared as Atlantis. According to judge Dave Hughes, Gray refused to remove her mask when eliminated, leading to a lengthy discussion with producers. Hughes recounted on 2Day FM's Morning Crew: 'She said, 'No, I'm continuing in the show'. There had to be a discussion which went for quite a while.'
Gray's UK exit also required crew members to coax her back to the stage for the unmasking, with reports suggesting it took an hour. She gave blunt, one-word answers to judges' questions, prompting online reactions. One viewer wrote on X: 'Obsessed with Macy Gray being fuming about getting voted off... it's about time we had a bit of drama.'
