Mica Harris, a 21-year-old contestant on the latest series of Love Island, has disclosed her surprising connections to global superstar Rihanna and music mogul Simon Cowell. Her aunt is Mia Mottley, the Prime Minister of Barbados, which has given her access to high-profile figures.
Harris met Rihanna thanks to the singer's close friendship with Prime Minister Mottley. She recalled: 'She was staying two houses down from my grandparents and my aunt was taking me to see them. But then we turned up outside this house I didn't recognise and Auntie Mia said, “Surprise, you’re meeting Rihanna!”' Harris described Rihanna as 'the loveliest person' and 'the people’s princess', adding that she hopes the singer will be watching the show.
Harris also met Simon Cowell years ago while he was on holiday in Barbados, though she noted that he would not recognise her now. Her family's fame has partly prepared her for the spotlight, but she said: 'There is always talk about my family in the papers, but not about me.'
Advice from her family, including staying true to herself and knowing her worth, has guided her approach to the villa. She plans to be respectful but determined in pursuing connections, saying: 'If I have my eyes set on someone, obviously I’m going to pursue them. But if they’re not reciprocating that then I’m going to take a step back.'
