Lewis Capaldi broke down in tears during his BST Hyde Park performance on July 11, admitting he feared he might never perform again after his Tourette's diagnosis. The 29-year-old Scottish singer, who was diagnosed with the neurological disorder in September 2022, became emotional on stage as he reflected on his journey.
Capaldi went public with his diagnosis to dispel assumptions that his involuntary tics were drug-related. His symptoms, which include shoulder twitching and eye blinking, worsen during live shows. Following a difficult Glastonbury set in 2023 where fans sang his hit 'Someone You Loved' for him, he took an extended hiatus to focus on his health.
Addressing the crowd, he said: 'I didn't know if this would be possible again, so to be here it's really special for me.' Earlier, he joked about fans possibly leaving early to watch the England vs Norway World Cup match, adding: 'I'm Scottish, most of you guys are English. Can't we all live in peace and harmony?'
The show came days after Capaldi reportedly bought drinks for England fans at a London pub. He also recently performed in Newcastle for the first time in three years, telling the audience: 'I'm back and feeling good after my breakdown.' He promised not to stay away so long and said he is ready to record a new album.
