Irish rock band Kodaline, best known for their 2013 hit 'All I Want', have announced they are splitting up after more than a decade together. The group, whose other hits include 'Brother' and 'High Hopes', said they will record a fifth and final album before parting ways.
In a video shared on Instagram, the band said: 'We know this might come as a surprise and it's definitely bittersweet for us too.' The quartet – Steve Garrigan, Vincent May, Mark Prendergast, and Jason Boland – originally formed in 2005 under the name 21 Demands, adopting their current name in 2012.
Kodaline achieved significant success with their debut album 'A Perfect World', which reached number three in the UK charts and number one in Ireland. Subsequent albums 'Coming Up For Air' (2015) and 'Politics Of Living' (2018) both topped the Irish album charts, while 2020's 'One Day At A Time' reached number two. They performed at Glastonbury in 2014 and 2017.
In their announcement, the band reflected: 'From busking on the streets of Dublin, to playing shows across the world, it really has been the stuff that dreams are made of. We want it to end on a high, so before we say goodbye we're heading into the studio one last time to record our fifth and final album as Kodaline.'
Fans have expressed their upset online, with one writing: 'One of my dreams was to see Kodaline live, can't believe that chance is gone now.' Another said: 'This is my biggest heartbreak for the year.' The band said they are 'forever grateful for the love and support' from their fans.
