Former England footballer Karen Carney, now a prominent TV pundit and Strictly Come Dancing champion, has shared her shopping habits in a revealing interview. The 37-year-old, who earned 144 caps for England and played at four World Cups, discussed everything from her favourite clothing brands to her love of Lego and Rich Tea biscuits.
Fashion and Accessories
Carney revealed that nine times out of 10 she is wearing Reiss, a brand she finds fits perfectly without need for alterations. Her most recent treat was a black Burberry backpack from Bicester Village and a Yves Saint Laurent corduroy cap bought at Rome airport as a reward after finishing Strictly. She also owns several pieces from Monica Vinader, including gold and silver bangles and a ring.
Food and Drink
As a vegan, Carney does most of her grocery shopping at Sainsbury's but loves Waitrose's vegan fresh filled pasta for quick meals. Her coffee at home is a black americano with oat milk from a pod machine, and she enjoys organic, dark roasts. She also keeps Sainsbury's Rich Tea fingers (vegan-friendly) and chocolate in the house for guests, and orders Nando's via Deliveroo.
Gadgets and Hobbies
Carney uses her phone, laptop and iPad constantly, finding Lego therapeutic – she has built the Lego Concorde and London set. She also collects coffee pods and enjoys spending time at her local coffee shop.
Spending Philosophy
Carney values experiences over possessions, preferring to spend money on meals and holidays with family and friends. Her best present given was time – taking her family to 24 Stories in Birmingham for Christmas dinner and to Centre Parcs. She scrimps by using her Nectar card at Sainsbury's for discounts, and regrets buying clothes she never wears. Her biggest splurge is not material; she prefers sentimental items and shared experiences. She is on the lookout for a classic 1987 watch and an old-school mac.
