Jessie J Makes Emotional Stage Return After Breast Cancer Surgery

Jessie J made an emotional return to the stage on Saturday (September 6) at BBC Radio 2 in the Park, just 11 weeks after undergoing surgery for early breast cancer. The singer was joined by her two-year-old son, Sky, who saw her perform for the first time.

Addressing the crowd in Chelmsford, Essex, she said: “The last show I did, I had no idea what was gonna happen, and I’m still very much in the recovery process. But I’m just so grateful to be here.” She added that her son’s presence made the moment extra special, and Sky appeared on stage with protective headphones, singing an impromptu rendition of 'Happy Birthday'.

During her set, Jessie J performed new singles 'Believe In Magic' and 'Living My Best Life', revealing that she was diagnosed with breast cancer just two weeks before the latter’s release. “Everyone said, ‘Let’s stop, let’s just put everything on hold,’ and I said, ‘That’s not what life’s about,’” she told the audience. “Life is about standing in the storm but holding up your umbrella and just keep moving forward.”

The singer confirmed that she is now scheduled to undergo a second surgery for breast cancer, forcing her to postpone her UK and European tour dates to April 2026. The North American leg has been cancelled entirely. In an Instagram video, she explained: “I need to be better, I need to be healed… the US dates have to be cancelled.” She apologised to fans and promised to announce new US dates when possible.
