Jessie J's Emotional 2025 Reflection: 'One of the Hardest Years'
Jessie J shares tearful 2025 wrap-up with fans

Pop star Jessie J has delivered a raw and tearful end-of-year message to her fans, confessing that 2025 has ranked among the most challenging periods of her life. The 37-year-old singer took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a vulnerable close-up photo of her crying eye, alongside a candid caption about her struggles.

A Year of Heavy Emotions

In her post, Jessie J told her 14.2 million followers that this year 'has been heavy and hard' and admitted to 'feeling really low'. She encouraged her audience to embrace their emotions, writing, 'We are not superhuman or meant to be happy and positive all the time.' The 'Price Tag' singer stressed that it is healthy to cry and urged people to offer comfort rather than asking others to stop.

She explained that her sadness had surfaced after finally stopping work and public appearances for the first time in months. 'It's the first time I've stopped... So I'm crying a lot,' she shared. Jessie described it as 'the lowest I have felt in a while', an accumulation of emotions making their way to the surface.

Grieving a Personal Loss

Her emotional state comes amidst the ongoing grief for her late bodyguard and close friend, Dave, who passed away in 2018. The seventh anniversary of his death is approaching. Earlier in December, Jessie broke down in tears while performing the song 'I'll Never Know Why' from her 2025 album 'Don't Tease Me With a Good Time' at a Virgin Media and O2's Priority by Candlelight event, a performance dedicated to him.

On Monday, she posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, saying she would 'give anything to see her 'big bro' again'. She revealed she talks about Dave to her two-year-old son, Sky, who says, 'Uncle Dave lives in the clouds and he loves you so much.'

Facing a Health Battle

This difficult year has also been marked by a significant health challenge. Jessie J revealed in June that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, leading to a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. While she considers herself 'super lucky' the cancer was caught early and was non-invasive, she acknowledges there is a chance it could return.

She recounted to ABC News that her first call after the diagnosis was to her mother, telling her, 'Well I can't die because I have Sky.' The mother-of-one compared the surreal experience of surgery and anaesthesia to feeling like she was in an episode of the sci-fi series 'Black Mirror'.

Despite the profound hardships, Jessie J also described 2025 as one of the 'most magical years' of her life, both personally and professionally. She ended her emotional post by sending love to anyone feeling similarly, offering solidarity rather than a forced positive spin: 'No positive end to this. Just I'm with ya. It's sh** sometimes.'
