Harvest Rock 2025 in Adelaide overcame a disastrous start with biblical downpours and storms on Saturday, which forced thousands to evacuate and caused bottlenecks upon re-entry. Despite the chaos, the festival, sponsored by the South Australian government, ultimately succeeded thanks to standout performances from international headliners.
The Strokes delivered a masterclass of noughties rock, playing hits like Reptilia, The Modern Age, and Last Nite, while the War on Drugs provided a calming, reverb-drenched set that soothed organisers and revellers alike. Both bands, performing Australian exclusive shows, single-handedly saved the day and prevented the festival from becoming a soaking bust.
Other highlights included MIA's baggy alternative set, the Presets' thumping beats in the rain, and Vance Joy's ukulele performance. Ruel, Lauren Spencer Smith, and Royel Otis also impressed on Sunday, though crowd numbers were lower than Saturday. Groove Armada's lacklustre DJ set was a low point, but Pnau's euphoric performance restored energy.
The festival, built around fine food, wine, and eclectic music, faced a rocky return after a year off in 2024 due to issues securing international acts. However, with the Strokes, the War on Drugs, Jelly Roll, and Royel Otis leading the charge, Harvest Rock 2025 proved a musical triumph.
