Canadian musician Grimes, known for her eccentric style and relationship with Elon Musk, has ignited speculation that she underwent surgery to achieve pointed elf ears. The singer, real name Claire Elise Boucher, shared a photo on social media showing herself wrapped in head bandages with the caption: 'Did smthn crazy'. The image, which appears to show her in a medical gown with slight bruising around the eyes, prompted fans to guess she had cosmetic surgery.
Grimes had previously expressed interest in elf ear modification, tweeting months ago: 'Also, has anyone done elf ear mods with a good outcome? Im scared about ear cartilage having a hard time healing. Especially as a musician this surgery seems risky but I’ve wanted it my whole life.' Elon Musk, father of her son X Æ A-XII, replied at the time: 'The downside of elf ear surgery probably outweighs the upside.'
Since her split from Musk in September 2021, and again in March 2022, Grimes may feel freer to pursue the modification. She has worn temporary elf ears for years, including at the 2021 Met Gala where her costume featured jewellery mimicking the shape. The singer is no stranger to body modification, recently getting a large white ink tattoo of alien-style angel wings across her back.
