Camila Cabello, formerly of Fifth Harmony, has released her debut solo single 'Crying In The Club', which is climbing charts worldwide. The 20-year-old's first video, combining 'I Have Questions' and 'Crying In The Club', has been viewed over six million times in three days on YouTube as of 22 May 2017. She also performed at the 2017 Billboard Awards.
Cabello told Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 1: 'I feel like I've been cooped up in a studio for months. During writing the music I completely forgot anyone was going to hear it - now it's really sinking in.' She added: 'I'm running round like crazy so I don't feel like I have time to process it, which I think is a good thing. Otherwise, the nerves would be way worse.'
Cabello joins a long list of successful former girl group members who have gone solo. Beyoncé, formerly of Destiny's Child, has achieved global success. Nicole Scherzinger, from The Pussycat Dolls, has had UK top three singles and became an X Factor judge. Cheryl Cole, formerly of Girls Aloud, has had four UK top 10 solo albums.
Other notable examples include Geri Halliwell (Spice Girls), who released the double platinum album 'Schizophonic'; Louise Redknapp (Eternal), who has four top 10 albums; Alesha Dixon (Mis-Teeq), who won Strictly Come Dancing and later judged it; Kelly Rowland (Destiny's Child), who had a number one with 'Dilemma'; and Emma Bunton (Spice Girls), who has seven top 10 singles.
