Jonnie Irwin Overwhelmed by Support After 'Best Day' Update Amid Terminal Cancer Battle

Jonnie Irwin, the presenter of A Place In The Sun, has received an outpouring of support after sharing a health update on social media. The 49-year-old, who is battling terminal cancer, documented his visit to London's Oval cricket ground in an Instagram post, describing it as the 'best day'.

Irwin was joined by cricketer Ryan Sidebottom at the sports ground, courtesy of sports hospitality company Engage. In his post, he wrote: 'Had the best day in awesome company thanks to Ryan Sidebottom and Engage who made the whole experience a massive highlight of my summer.'

Followers responded with messages of encouragement, with one commenting: 'So happy you had a super day.' Another wrote: 'Great to see you out and about and enjoying yourself, Jonnie lad.' A third added: 'Lovely, nice to see you enjoying time with your mates.'

Irwin announced last November that his lung cancer had spread to his brain and become terminal, leaving him with only 'months to live'. Since then, he has been documenting his health journey on social media. In June, the Channel 4 star revealed he had not told his children—Rex, four, and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac—about his diagnosis, fearing it might 'confuse' them.

Irwin recently spoke about his hospice experience on BBC Morning Live, emphasising the importance of palliative care. He told hosts Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones: 'I'm really good, I have up days and down days but today is an up day. Family are great and very noisy.' He urged others to 'embrace' palliative care and to use hospice services if available, describing his own positive experience with blood transfusions in a hospice setting.
