A woman who claimed to be the secret daughter of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury has died aged 48. Her husband, Thomas, confirmed the death to the Daily Mail, stating she passed away peacefully after a long battle with chordoma, a rare spinal cancer. She leaves two sons aged nine and seven.
The woman, initially known only as “B” and later revealed as “Bibi”, was the subject of the 2025 book Love, Freddie by author Lesley-Ann Jones. In the book, Bibi claimed she was conceived during an affair Mercury had with a friend’s wife. Jones alleged that Mercury called Bibi his “trésor” and “little froggie”, and that Queen songs “Bijou” and “Don’t Try So Hard” were written about her.
The claims were met with scepticism from those close to Mercury. Mary Austin, his closest friend and beneficiary, said she had no knowledge of any child or diaries that Bibi alleged existed. Austin stated, “Freddie had a glorious openness, and I cannot imagine he would have wanted to, or been able to, keep such a joyful event a secret.” She also said she never saw him write a diary.
Anita Dobson, wife of Queen guitarist Brian May, also expressed doubt, suggesting it might be “fake news” and challenging the woman to “step forward”. Bibi responded by saying she was “devastated” by Austin’s comments, claiming that the truth of Freddie’s life had been distorted for 34 years.
Her husband Thomas said her ashes were scattered over the Alps, adding, “B is now with her beloved and loving father in the world of thoughts.”
