Tony Mortimer, the former East 17 star, has been showing off his impressive weight loss at the age of 55. The singer, who was part of the chart-topping 1990s boy band, has been documenting his health journey on Instagram, sharing posts about cycling and walking.
In a recent post, Mortimer said: 'A little bike ride today buoyed by your comments and a little weight loss this week. Getting outside if only for a few minutes is great for the body and the mind.' He also encouraged his followers to get their steps in, saying: 'Getting some steps in and still forming the exercise habit. Apparently 8-10k is a golden daily number for health? Small walks, big changes.'
Mortimer returned to the stage this week, performing DJ sets as a warm-up for D:Ream, the 1990s pop group behind the hit 'Things Can Only Get Better'. He played two gigs in London and Leeds, and on Instagram he asked fans: 'Don’t forget these little 90s icons dates in your diary if you’re looking for somewhere to have a good old rave up. Who’s coming? See you there.'
East 17, formed in Walthamstow in 1991, sold 18 million albums worldwide. Their biggest hit, 'Stay Another Day', famously kept Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' off the number one spot in the UK charts. The song was written by Mortimer about his brother's suicide, and he has spoken about the deep meaning behind it.
In 2022, Mortimer appeared on Channel 4's The Last Leg, where he performed the song on piano with presenter Alex Brooker. He revealed that he doesn't often perform the track, but enjoys Christmas carols such as 'Once in Royal David's City'.
