Dilly Carter, the professional organiser known for BBC One's 'Sort Your Life Out', has a life story that extends far beyond decluttering. Born in Sri Lanka, she was adopted at age three by an English mother, Freda, and a Sri Lankan father, Deya, who died of dementia in 2010. She grew up in Middlesex and has spoken openly about her gratitude for her adoptive parents.
In 2023, Carter revealed she had been diagnosed with stage one cancer of the womb after surgery to remove uterine fibroids. She underwent a six-hour operation to remove the tumour and kept fans updated on her recovery. In February 2025, she described her cancer battle as 'tough' on ITV's Lorraine, noting she continued working and filming throughout her treatment.
Carter married her husband, Charley, a painter and decorator who builds TV sets, in May 2012 on a beach in Bali. The couple have a daughter, Nelly-Reet, born a year later. Carter has shared their love story on Instagram, explaining how they reconnected after 11 years and took a risk moving to Chicago together, eventually marrying and settling in Hertfordshire.
With over 454,000 Instagram followers as @declutterdollies, Carter uses social media and virtual cleanups to help others organise their homes. She joined 'Sort Your Life Out' in 2021 alongside Stacey Solomon and has become a firm favourite with viewers.
