GB News presenter Dawn Neesom has provided a live health update on her colleague Eamonn Holmes, who suffered a stroke last week. The 61-year-old broadcaster was forced to step down from the breakfast programme, but is now said to be recovering well in hospital surrounded by loved ones.
Speaking on air on Saturday, Neesom said: 'Everyone at GB News is saddened to hear that our wonderful colleague and friend Eamonn Holmes had a stroke last week. He is recovering well in hospital, he has his loved ones by his side and is talking and chatting, so he will be back as soon as he can.' She added that Holmes is 'not a quitter' and that a TRIC award was waiting for him at the studio.
Neesom recalled working with Holmes since the early 1990s, describing how they were both terrified on their first day together on a breakfast TV show. She said Holmes put her at ease with his football talk and 'dreadful' language, and urged viewers to send their best wishes, which she would read out live.
Viewers responded warmly on social media, with messages such as 'Get well soon, Eamonn. You're definitely missed' and 'Wishing Eamonn a speedy recovery. C'mon big man... we need you back on our screens.' Another called him 'an absolute trouper'.
