Dababy Sparks Outrage With Controversial Ukraine War Music Video
Dababy Sparks Fury Using Ukraine Soldier Footage In Music Video

American rapper Dababy is facing a torrent of international criticism after releasing a music video that appropriates deeply distressing footage from the war in Ukraine. The video for his track 'SHAKE SUM' has been condemned as "shocking and disgusting" for its use of real combat scenes, including the final moments of a celebrated Ukrainian soldier.

The most contentious segment features footage of Iryna "Irisha" Zarutska, a 25-year-old Ukrainian servicewoman whose death in 2022 was widely mourned. The video superimposes a demonic-looking Dababy over the harrowing real-world imagery, a move that has been branded as profoundly disrespectful and exploitative.

Official Condemnation and Public Backlash

Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not mince words in its response, stating the video "crosses the line of morality and humanity". The organisation Ukrainian Women's Guard issued a direct plea to the artist, demanding he immediately remove the footage and apologise to Zarutska's grieving family and the entire Ukrainian nation.

On social media platform X, the public reaction has been equally scathing. Users have accused the rapper of using tragedy for clout, with comments labelling the video "absolutely vile," "disgusting," and a "new low." The controversy has ignited a debate about the ethical boundaries of artistic expression and the exploitation of human suffering for entertainment.

Who Was Iryna "Irisha" Zarutska?

The video's use of Zarutska's image adds a particularly painful layer to the outrage. Before her death, the 25-year-old had been captured by Russian forces and was subsequently returned to Ukraine in a prisoner swap. Tragically, she was killed just months later in the Kherson region. Remembered for her bravery and dedication, her likeness has become a symbol of national resistance, making its use in the music video all the more incendiary.

As of now, Dababy and his representatives have not issued a public statement or apology addressing the growing condemnation. The video remains live on his official YouTube channel, continuing to attract views alongside a flood of critical comments.
