Coronation Street's Jodie Ramsey and Daniel Osbourne are on the verge of an unexpected storyline, as secrets and personal struggles come to light. In the wake of murder week, Jodie is forced to confront her actions, while Daniel secretly spirals after discovering his girlfriend Megan Walsh is a child abuser.
Unlikely Friendship Blossoms
With Daniel unaware of Megan's abuse of a teenage pupil and feeling deeply betrayed, he finds himself in a dark place. Jodie, similarly isolated due to her behaviour, becomes an unexpected confidante. Corrie boss Kate Brooks has teased a storyline that fans "won't see coming," revealing an unlikely friendship between the two characters who have barely shared screen time.
Speaking to The Mirror, Brooks explained: "Jodie's story will dovetail off into Daniel's story as well. An unlikely little friendship will be formed, which I don't think many people see coming, but it's a really different insight into what makes them both tick." She added that for the first time, Daniel can be truthful about his feelings, and Jodie can be honest with him because he is in a dark place.
Daniel's Dark Journey
Brooks also highlighted how dark things could get for Daniel. "He met somebody who's on the same page as a teacher, apparently respectable, and he's been completely duped by it, and it completely makes him unravel. Rob Mallard, who plays Daniel, is such a phenomenal actor, and we'll see him slowly start to lose it because of wondering who to trust." Daniel feels he has let down his son Bertie and Will, and the storyline will chart the impact of Megan's abuse on his life and relationships.
Spoilers for next week reveal the plot kicks off when Jodie, believing Daniel is on holiday, decides to hide out at his flat. She lets herself in only to find Daniel there. She claims she found his spare key on the pavement and was returning it, but Daniel is disbelieving and orders her out. When Jodie threatens to tell his family and explains she has nowhere else to go, Daniel eventually allows her to stay. They keep each other's secrets, with Jodie lying that she is at a friend's house and maintaining Daniel's holiday cover.
