Celine Dion has remembered her late husband René Angélil on the tenth anniversary of his death, sharing a poignant photograph of the music producer alongside a heartfelt message. The Canadian singer posted the image of her former manager, with the portrait placed on a piano, as she reflected on a decade of loss.
Next to the photograph, the 57-year-old wrote: "Mon amour, ten years without you feels like just a day, and yet each day feels like a decade… Ten years without your caress, and yet every day I feel your touch… We miss you more than we can bear, but you taught us to be strong." Dion was married to Angélil for 21 years before his death from throat cancer in January 2016.
The couple first met when Dion auditioned for Angélil in 1980 at the age of 12. Their first date came seven years later, and they made their relationship public after another six years. They married in December 1994 in a lavish ceremony in Montréal, Canada. The couple went on to have three sons: René-Charles, born in 2001, and twins Nelson and Eddy, born in 2010.
Dion took a two-year break from her career in 1999 to care for Angélil after his first diagnosis of throat cancer. He recovered, but the cancer returned in 2014, prompting another hiatus from her work. Angélil died at his home in Las Vegas on 14 January 2016, aged 73, just two days before his 74th birthday. At the time, their eldest son was 15, while the twins were five.
A spokesperson for the family announced his death, saying: "René Angélil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer. The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment."
