Eighties singer Chris de Burgh is set to make an unlikely cameo in the second series of Disney Plus drama Rivals, according to reports. The 77-year-old musician will perform his hit single 'Lady In Red' during an extravagant wedding scene.
The second series of the 1980s-set show, starring David Tennant, Danny Dyer, Katherine Parkinson and Emily Atack, is expected to air later this year. A source told The Sun: 'The producers wanted a romantic number that would perfectly encapsulate the late Eighties, so what better choice than Lady In Red.'
The insider added: 'Though it's also fair to say that the emotional sound and lyrics are slightly at odds with some of the more animal elements of Rivals, which doesn't ease up on the steamy storylines in the next outing.' The award-winning drama, based on Dame Jilly Cooper's raunchy novel, follows the high-stakes world of British television.
The extended second series will feature 12 episodes and began filming in May last year. It will see Tennant reprise his role as Lord Tony Baddingham, alongside original cast members including Alex Hassell, Aidan Turner and Nafessa Williams. Danny Dyer returns as Freddie Jones, for which he won the British Press Guild Award for best actor and the RTS Television Award for supporting actor.
Hassell has revealed series two will serve as a tribute to Dame Jilly Cooper following her death last year. 'We're just trying to work really hard to make her vision as bold and as full as possible,' he told the Standard at the London Film Festival premiere in October.
