BRIT Awards to Feature New In Memoriam Segment Honouring Ozzy Osbourne and Mani Mounfield

Show organisers for the BRIT Awards are reportedly planning to introduce a new In Memoriam section during the ceremony, which will pay tribute to multiple artists who have passed away in the last twelve months. According to sources speaking to The Sun, this segment will specifically honour rock icon Ozzy Osbourne and Stone Roses bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield, among others.

Details of the Planned Tribute

A source close to the production told the publication: 'A large-scale In Memoriam section of the Brits is being planned. Rather than focusing on just Ozzy or Mani, it will honour several artists we have lost in the past 12 months.' This move marks a significant addition to the annual awards show, which is regarded as the biggest night in British music.

Remembering Ozzy Osbourne

Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath, died at the age of 76 on July 22 at his Buckinghamshire home. His death was attributed to an acute myocardial infarction and an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, with official documents also listing coronary artery disease and Parkinson's disease with autonomic dysfunction as contributing factors.

His passing came just three weeks after he performed a farewell show with his original Black Sabbath bandmates at Villa Park stadium in Birmingham. Over 42,000 fans attended the Back To The Beginning concert, where Ozzy delivered an emotional final speech, saying: 'You've no idea how I feel - thank you from the bottom of my heart.'

Ozzy was laid to rest in a private funeral on the grounds of his 250-acre mansion in Buckinghamshire. The ceremony was attended by his widow Sharon, their children, and rock royalty including Marilyn Manson and lead guitarist Zakk Wylde.

Honouring Mani Mounfield

Gary 'Mani' Mounfield, the acclaimed bassist for The Stone Roses, died aged 63 in November at his home in Heaton Moor, Stockport. He collapsed following a seizure, and despite an ambulance being called, he could not be revived. His death came just two years after his wife Imelda died from bowel cancer.

Following his passing, The Stone Roses shared a tribute on social media, writing: 'RIP our wonderful brother Mani. The greatest bass player and friend we could ever have wished for. X' Lead singer Ian Brown also posted: 'Rest In Peace Mani.' Sources indicated that Noel and Liam Gallagher were informed of Mani's death hours before the public announcement and were absolutely heartbroken.

Only days before his death, Mani had announced an intimate conversation tour scheduled for 2026-2027, where he planned to recount iconic moments from his career, including the 1990 Spike Island gig and the Stone Roses' comeback stadium tour.

BRIT Awards 2025 Details

The BRIT Awards will return on February 28 and will be held at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester, marking a departure from its long-standing venue at London's O2 Arena. The Daily Mail revealed that the show is likely to move around the UK to different locations in the coming years.

Comedian Jack Whitehall will return to host the ceremony for the sixth time, having previously presented in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2025. He stepped away in 2022 when Mo Gilligan took over for two ceremonies, and Maya Jama, Roman Kemp, and Clara Amfo co-hosted in 2024.

This new In Memoriam segment underscores the BRIT Awards' commitment to celebrating the legacy of influential artists, ensuring that figures like Ozzy Osbourne and Mani Mounfield are remembered for their profound impact on British music.
