Jock McDonald, the lead singer of the British band The Bollock Brothers, has died at the age of 69 following a 'freak swimming accident' in Bundoran, Ireland.
The musician, born Patrick Joseph O'Donnell, formed the band in 1979. Over the years, the group released nine studio albums, with notable hits including Horror Movies, The Bunker and The Legend of the Snake, as well as covers of Serge Gainsbourg's Harley David (Son of a B****) and Alex Harvey's Faith Healer.
According to a Facebook post by band member Patrick Pattyn, McDonald died on Saturday evening, July 26. He was pulled from the water near diving boards at Bundoran beach by Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteers after reports of a casualty on the rocks. He was taken to Sligo University Hospital but later pronounced dead.
Pattyn wrote: 'It is with great sadness in my heart, I have to bring you this terrible news…sadly, our singer Jock McDonald has died last night in Ireland, apparently a freak swimming accident.' He added that the family and band are in shock.
Tributes have poured in, with independent record label Charly Records expressing condolences, and his brother Gerry O'Donnell saying: 'He was more than a brother to me.'
