US singer-songwriter Bill Callahan is set to participate in a reader interview with the Guardian, inviting fans to submit questions ahead of his new album, 'My Days of 58'. The interview will take place in early January, and the best questions will be featured in a future edition of the publication's Film & Music section.
Callahan, known for his deeply reflective lyrics, has been on a creative streak since 2019's 'Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest'. His recent work has explored themes of parenthood and marriage, with a looser, more expansive sound shaped by his live band—guitarist Matt Kinsey, saxophonist Dustin Laurenzi, and drummer Jim White. The band's improvisational chemistry was evident on the 2024 live album 'Resuscitate!' and powers his forthcoming solo record.
The first singles from 'My Days of 58' offer Callahan's characteristic wisdom. He described the track 'Lonely City' as unusual for him, noting, 'Writing about concrete and steel felt like a no go... But of course cities are made by humans so they are human, too.' Fans can also ask about his current listening, the reissue of his 2001 Peel Session as Smog, his family's years in Knaresborough, or his collaborations with Noah Cyrus and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy.
