Beyoncé Surprise Drops New Track Morning Dew (Donk)

Beyoncé has once again surprised fans with a sudden new release, dropping the track Morning Dew (Donk) on the Fourth of July holiday weekend. The song, originally conceived for her second album B'Day (2006), serves as a precursor to the album's 20th-anniversary reissue scheduled for September.

Direct Nod to the BeyHive

According to a press release from Beyoncé's representatives, the song is described as a "direct nod to her loyal BeyHive to commemorate the upcoming epic celebration of B'Day," as reported by Rolling Stone. The track was co-written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and Darius Dixon, and produced by Beyoncé and Williams. It was accompanied by a lyric video featuring two-decade-old footage shot by Cliff Watts, who also photographed Beyoncé for the 2007 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover.

Background and Speculation

Speculation about a track titled Donk dates back to 2014, when rumors hinted at a surprise follow-up to Beyoncé's self-titled 2013 album. A song of the same name was registered with ASCAP in October 2014. Morning Dew (Donk) marks Beyoncé's first new music since the release of Cowboy Carter in March 2024, which featured collaborations with Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, and Shaboozey. That album debuted at No. 1 in multiple countries and became her first to top the country albums chart.

B'Day Legacy and Tour

B'Day included hits like Deja Vu, Irreplaceable, and Ring the Alarm. It was Beyoncé's second No. 1 album and won Best Contemporary R&B Album at the 2007 Grammys. The upcoming reissue has yet to reveal further details. To support Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé embarked on the Cowboy Carter tour, which included a six-night residency at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in June 2025.
