As Christmas approaches, fans revisit the beloved 2003 film Love Actually, which features Martine McCutcheon as Natalie, the love interest of Hugh Grant's Prime Minister. But the actress's life off-screen has been marked by significant challenges, including bankruptcy and serious illness.
McCutcheon, now 45, first rose to fame as Tiffany Mitchell on BBC's EastEnders, a role she played from 1994 to 1998, with her final episode drawing 22 million viewers. She later pursued music, releasing a solo album that reached number two in the UK charts, and has over 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Her song 'Perfect Moment' has been streamed more than 1.3 million times.
However, her health declined after she was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome (ME) and later Lyme disease. She described a low point when she was unable to move and felt suicidal. The financial toll was severe; she was declared bankrupt, and bailiffs seized her £25,000 engagement ring. 'I just thought my health, money, career have all been taken from me,' she said in 2016.
Despite these setbacks, McCutcheon has rebuilt her life. She released her first album in 15 years, Lost and Found, in 2017, became a regular panellist on Loose Women, and now lives in a Surrey mansion with her husband Jack McManus, whom she married in 2012. The couple have a son, Rafferty, born when McCutcheon was 39. 'Motherhood has made me so much more content,' she told the Daily Mail.
McCutcheon recently attended a charity gala in a black satin dress, showcasing her recovery. She remains active on social media, recently posting a throwback photo with Hugh Grant captioned: 'Just because love is all around... Actually..'
