An Antiques Roadshow guest brought the door number from John Lennon's childhood home to a recording at Sefton Park Palm House in Liverpool. The BBC programme aired a repeat episode on Sunday, July 26.
The Memorabilia's Story
The guest explained that in 1965, when the Lennon family sold their home, a couple bought it but moved out after a few months. The next couple who bought it were unaware it was John Lennon's house until they opened the curtains one morning to find five people in the garden taking photographs. That couple, who were not Beatles fans, lived there for 36 years, chasing people out of the garden. The guest revealed: 'The person that lived there was my uncle.'
He continued: 'I was one of the few Beatles fans that got into the house for about 36 years. When he was making changes to the gate, he gave me the old number plate.'
The Valuation
Expert Raj Bisram called the item 'iconic' and said: 'I think if that was put into a specialist Beatles sale, this would make £5,000-£8,000 easily, but it could double that!' The guest was blown away by the valuation but admitted he had no plans to sell it, preferring to keep the plate in the family.
