Singer Alex Warren has disclosed the extent of the technical difficulties he faced during his Grammy performance, sharing the distorted audio that filled his in-ear monitors. The rising star, who was nominated for Best New Artist, struggled through his rendition of his hit single “Ordinary” at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Footage from the night showed Warren adjusting his earpiece as he walked through the audience before eventually removing it entirely. He then appeared to fall out of sync with his backing vocalists, while the sound in the hall itself seemed heavily reverberant. The disruption marred what should have been a celebratory moment for the first-time nominee.
Taking to Instagram, Warren posted a video in which he can be seen wearing a resigned expression, before hiding his face in his hands and letting out a silent scream of frustration. The accompanying clip featured the jumbled audio feed he had been hearing, offering fans an insight into the chaos unfolding in his ears.
His caption read: “When you’re performing at the Grammys and all you hear is this in your ears…This would only happen to me…” The post highlighted his frustration with the malfunction, which he clearly felt was typical of his luck.
In the end, Warren lost the Best New Artist award to British singer-songwriter Olivia Dean. While Warren’s performance attracted attention for all the wrong reasons, it remained unclear whether any other artists involved in the medley experienced similar technical issues, as they appeared to complete their segments without noticeable problems.
