Ace Frehley, the founding guitarist of the iconic rock band Kiss, has died at the age of 74. The musician, known for his 'Spaceman' persona, passed away after spending several weeks in hospital following a fall at his home. His family confirmed the news, stating they were 'completely devastated and heartbroken.'
Frehley co-founded Kiss in 1973 alongside Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss. The band became famous for its elaborate costumes, kabuki makeup and explosive live shows. Frehley's lead guitar work was a defining element of hits such as 'Rock and Roll All Nite' and 'Detroit Rock City.'
The guitarist had been on life support with a brain bleed after a fall in his recording studio in late September. He was forced to cancel a concert and subsequently all remaining tour dates for 2025 due to ongoing health issues. His representative confirmed the cause of death was related to the fall.
Tributes poured in from fellow band members. Simmons and Stanley issued a joint statement calling Frehley 'an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier' who will 'always be a part of KISS’s legacy.' Frehley contributed to nine studio albums and two live albums during his eight-year tenure with the band, leaving an indelible mark on rock music.
