Zelda Switch 2 console leaks as Nintendo Direct hopes rise

Leaked images appear to confirm a Legend of Zelda-themed Switch 2 console and Pro Controller, set to celebrate the franchise's 40th anniversary. The images, which surfaced online, show packaging for the special edition hardware, matching earlier rumours.

The images, spread across Reddit and ResetEra, show a console and controller with a logo dedicated to Zelda's 40th anniversary, not specifically tied to the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake. The box details and design similarities suggest the leak is legitimate.

Universo Nintendo editor 'Necro' Felipe Lima, who previously claimed to have seen the hardware, shared the images on X and said they were 'exactly as I saw it previously'. When asked if they are real, he replied: 'Both are legit'.

Nintendo Direct expectations

If the designs are real, an announcement could come in a future Nintendo Direct. Nintendo has traditionally held a Direct in September, but a Zelda-themed presentation before then is possible, given recent dedicated Directs for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave and Splatoon Raiders.

Nintendo has previously released themed hardware alongside new Zelda games, including a Switch OLED for Tears of the Kingdom and a 3DS for Majora's Mask 3D. So far, the company hasn't celebrated Zelda's 40th anniversary substantially, aside from some Ocarina of Time Lego sets.
