A fan-made remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, built entirely in Unreal Engine 5, has surfaced online, offering a stunning visual upgrade ahead of Nintendo's official version due later in 2026.
The nine-minute video, posted on YouTube, shows a re-imagined Link exploring several game areas, with the majority of the showcase set in Hyrule Field. Powered by an RTX 5090, the graphics demonstrate how far technology has come since the original N64 release in 1998.
Technical Showcase, Not a Playable Demo
The project is more of a technical showcase than a working demo, with little in the way of quests or gameplay. However, if Nintendo's own modern version looks anywhere near as good, fans will likely be pleased when it arrives.
Since its publication, the video has garnered over 16,000 views and more than 200 likes on YouTube.
Fan Reactions Mixed
Comments on the video are largely positive. One viewer wrote: "I know this isn’t the real game, but it would be so cool if it were. It really does look great except for the lighting which I’m sure can be fixed. They need to give the fans what they want: an exact copy but just with way better graphics. Link even moves the same as he does in the N64 version."
Another added: "Can only hope the switch 2 looks half as good as this." A third commented: "This looks absolutely amazing!"
However, some criticised the lighting. One comment read: "I really dislike the lighting. Everything is either too bright or too dark." Another said: "Eh, I hate to be a hater and I wear no nostalgia glasses, but this ain't it. And it's so so so far from what it should be that it's pointless to even start typing why it ain't it. Sorry."
Not Affiliated with Nintendo
The video is in no way affiliated with Nintendo and is purely a fan project. Gamers are still waiting for Nintendo to reveal more information about the official Ocarina of Time remake, which remains scheduled for 2026.
