CD Projekt RED has confirmed a rough release window for The Witcher 4, and it is not arriving next year. In a video discussing the studio's plans for Gamescom 2026, Michal Nowakowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt RED, said the game is currently targeting a 2028 release window. This is new information for fans, as the game previously had no release window at all.
Targeting 2028
Nowakowski explained: "While we're not showing The Witcher 4 at [Gamescom 2026], and we're not ready to share an exact date, I can tell you this. The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window." He added: "I know it's a bit of a wait and you'd love to play it sooner, but let the team cook. It will be worth the wait."
The Witcher 4 will star Ciri as its main protagonist and take place in the Northern Realms of the Witcher world. It is set to be the first in a new trilogy of games, which the studio plans to release in relatively quick succession after the first installment lands in 2028.
Game details and Gamescom plans
Nowakowski also provided some details about the upcoming game, saying: "The Witcher 4 features a huge and immersive open world, intense and action-packed gameplay, and a deep impactful story that we hope will stay with you for a long time. Simply put, this is our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date."
CD Projekt RED will show off the new DLC for The Witcher 3, Songs of the Past, at Gamescom Opening Night Live. There will also be a playable demo on the stage floor at the event. That DLC is set to release in 2027, although there is no concrete release date for it yet.
