Where is Arturo from A Child of My Own now?

Arturo Calderon Gamino, husband of Eleonor Alejandra Marin Mendoza in Netflix's true crime documentary A Child of My Own, spent two years in prison following his arrest alongside his wife but was eventually acquitted of any wrongdoing.

Arrest and Acquittal

Alejandra, who married Arturo when she was 17, suffered numerous miscarriages and underwent IVF treatments. In 2009, at age 26, after another miscarriage, she faked a full-term pregnancy and kidnapped a newborn from the hospital where she worked. Hours later, both were arrested at a hotel. Alejandra was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Desire to Be a Father

Despite the ordeal, Arturo expressed in the documentary his continued wish to have a child. He said, "With a child, your last name and your lineage continues and whatever you want them to carry on. I would indeed like to have a child. Not as much as before but I still have that desire engrained in me and I don't think it will ever go away."

Reunion and New Family

Two years after Alejandra's release in 2023, she said her husband wanted to try again, but she did not. They separated, and Arturo had a brief relationship resulting in a son. He later sought Alejandra out again, telling her he missed and loved her. She decided to give the relationship another try. The documentary shows them playing with his son in a park, with Alejandra saying, "It makes me very happy to see him smile and to be fulfilled as a father. It makes me even happier that he sees me in his life as a mother or a parent to his son."

A Child of My Own is available to watch on Netflix.
