The stars of ITV's crime drama Van der Valk have hinted that the show is "set up" for a new series, suggesting a possible return after the current fourth season.
Marc Warren and Maimie McCoy, who lead the series, spoke about the show's future following its return earlier this month after a three-year break. The fourth series features three more homicide cases for Van der Valk's team to solve.
Stars on the show's future
Marc Warren shared: "It's set up for another series, if anybody gets to the end of series four, they'll want to know what series five is." He added, "What we want and what we get are two different things in life, but certainly very grateful to have done it and would love to do more," as reported by the Express.
Maimie McCoy reflected on the show's evolution, saying: "The thing about four is, it's almost like it's really found its feet and identity, and I think we have." She noted that when they started season four, it had been about a year since filming the previous ones, and it felt like it was naturally growing.
Bond between co-stars
McCoy also spoke about her close bond with her co-stars, saying: "I think as life is happening to all of us very separately, it just brings a richness to it, which I think is very hard to talk about or describe." She added that this infuses the show and that it should keep blossoming over time.
Warren added: "We've been through a lot of life stuff on this show, and that's all I'll say on that, it's very bonding, we had Covid in it." He recalled realising in series three how incredible the series was, noting it took him three or four seasons to fully appreciate it.
Based on Nicolas Freeling's crime thriller novels, the show first aired in 2020 on ITV as a reboot of the 1970s series with Barry Foster. Van der Valk is available to watch on ITVX.
