Netflix has released the official trailer for The Gentlemen season two, confirming the show's return on Thursday, September 3, and announcing that a third season is already in the works.
The series, which attracted more than 100 million views worldwide and reached the number one spot in 75 countries after its debut more than two years ago, returns with eight new episodes. Theo James reprises his role as Eddie Halstead, who is now "biting back" according to the trailer.
Trailer shows a darker Eddie
In the trailer, Eddie tells Geoff Seacombe (Vinnie Jones): "Four hundred years ago, this estate spread out as far as the eye can see. I want it all back." The teaser also introduces newcomer Hugh Bonneville, who Eddie asks to help "decriminalise marijuana".
Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) voices concerns that "The Duke" is evolving into "something volatile", with a follow-up clip showing Eddie strangling someone. The trailer escalates when Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone) calls Eddie a "snake", prompting Eddie to scream in his face: "Don't you f*****g talk to me like that!"
Fans react and season 3 confirmed
Fans have responded enthusiastically online, with one YouTuber commenting: "When the world needed The Gentlemen most, they returned." Another wrote: "Guy Ritchie masterpiece", while others added "I know this is going to be epic" and "Please give us four more plus seasons. Guy Ritchie is the goat."
Netflix has confirmed that The Gentlemen has already been renewed for a third season. Director Guy Ritchie said: "The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight. A third season felt inevitable, and I'm looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further."
What to expect in season two
No further details of season three have been released, but the official synopsis for season two reads: "It's been one year since Eddie and Susie joined forces to work together in Bobby's criminal empire overseas. As they drive to expand their enterprise, the decisions Bobby is making seem to be increasingly unsound. Now Eddie and Susie must decide whether to take action or risk losing it all, but unfettered ambition never ends well…"
Alongside Hugh Bonneville, season two will welcome Dune's Benjamin Clementine, The Housemaid star Michele Morrone and Love Island's Maya Jama. The Gentlemen season two premieres on Thursday, September 3, on Netflix.
