Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel is emerging as the likely subtitle for Bethesda's upcoming RPG, after fans found two new hints hidden in Starfield. The discovery follows Xbox CEO Asha Sharma teasing the subtitle last week after playing the game in a 'live session' behind closed doors, with the name obscured by asterisks.
Fans decode hidden numbers in Starfield
As spotted on Reddit, a string of 16 numbers appears on the bottom left of the screen when creating a character in Starfield, Bethesda's most recent sci-fi RPG. The numbers read "190514-2009140512". One gamer realised that splitting the numbers into pairs corresponds to letters of the alphabet, spelling out 'Sentinel'.
This is not the only Easter egg found. In the Starfield reveal trailer, fans spotted an unusual marking on a ship's console. The scratch appears to resemble the western coast of both High Rock and Hammerfell, locations home to geography similar to the original 2016 tease for The Elder Scrolls 6, with the latter home to Sentinel City.
Sentinel fits with earlier clues
Sentinel is the capital city of High Rock, a name long suspected as the setting for The Elder Scrolls 6. PC Gamer reports that the internal codeword for Elder Scrolls 6 is 'Guardian', a common synonym for Sentinel. Michael Kirkbride, a former Bethesda developer from the late 90s, backed the name when it was floated on Reddit.
With Sentinel City a coastal town, and other leaks hinting at customisable and sailable naval ships, the evidence is adding up. Bethesda and Xbox have yet to unveil The Elder Scrolls 6 to the world. Creative director Todd Howard has said he doesn't want to do that until the game is almost ready, but with a significant chunk fully playable for the Xbox boss, fans hope it will ship sooner rather than later.
