Star Wars fans have realised that Biddy Blas, the viral alien character from the new video game Star Wars: Galactic Racer, is voiced by a British professional wrestler. Richard Summers-Calvert, who performs as UK independent wrestler Charles Crowley, provides the voice of the small, furious creature that has taken social media by storm.
Viral catchphrases and fan reaction
Biddy Blas, described as a small "crocodile man," has become a fan favourite since the game's launch. His bizarre catchphrases, including screeching "scrib doon" and "ding dong pookie, ding dong," have flooded TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) since launch day.
Summers-Calvert, who has competed on the indie wrestling circuit since 2018, is no stranger to larger-than-life roles. He previously helped portray The Thing in Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps and made an appearance on BBC soap EastEnders.
Voice actor's unexpected fame
Reflecting on the instant online craze, Summers-Calvert admitted the reaction was unexpected. "I am overwhelmed and overstimulated," he said in a video addressed to fans, adding: "I am so so grateful and so happy that everybody loves Biddy Blas."
Developers at Fuse Games initially envisioned the character, a member of the Crocin species previously glimpsed briefly in Solo: A Star Wars Story, with a much deeper voice. "I was imagining in my head more of a deeper fantasy dwarf voice," narrative designer Ren Alex-Rose told Empire magazine. But when Summers-Calvert stepped into the booth, his pitch shifted the entire vision.
Creative direction and fan creations
Speaking to the same publication, Summers-Calvert said: "I decided that this character has little man syndrome. Maybe lacking confidence, slightly anxious and it comes out in rage." That frantic approach instantly won over the development team. "When we heard Richard's audition, we were like, 'No, that's it. That's absolutely it. That is the perfect direction for this character,'" Alex-Rose added.
Narrative director Nathaniel Daw said: "We wanted a character that really embodied the spirit of anger and rage – a bad loser, and a worse winner." The move paid off as memes appeared within 24 hours of the game's release, with fans already designing custom LEGO models of the creature and swarming social media with clips.
A surreal experience for the actor
"The moment I heard there's a smaller character, I went higher pitched," Summers-Calvert said. "His energy needs to be three times the size of him." The actor admitted he has even been playing the game himself, though racing against his own voice has proven to be a surreal experience. "He's incredibly annoying," he said. "There's that thing called 'cuteness aggression'. I love him so much, I want to throw him at the wall. That's how I feel about Biddy Blas."
