Tom Holland Teases a Detective-Style Mystery
Tom Holland has described the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day as a real mystery, even for the webslinger himself. In an interview with Esquire, Holland said, “This movie is a real mystery. And for a large portion of the film even Spider-Man is a little bit at odds and lost and is like, ‘What is going on?’ We’re just trying to find ways to make this movie feel like a detective movie.” The fourth Marvel Spider-Man film is set for release next month, and two trailers have already sparked intense speculation among fans.
Trailers Reveal Metamorphosis and Body-Swapping
The trailers show Spider-Man undergoing a strange metamorphosis, with someone or something swapping human bodies. The Hulk returns, bigger than ever, and Doctor Strange’s spell at the end of No Way Home means no one knows Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Yet, the plot remains elusive. Marvel has trained fans to treat trailers with suspicion since the three Spider-Men reveal in No Way Home. Now, every shaky frame or missing body part is scrutinized as evidence.
Sadie Sink’s Role Sparks Theories
Sadie Sink has been cast in an unknown role, fueling wild guesses. Some believe she plays the consciousness-swapping hooded villain from the trailers, possibly a version of X-Men’s Jean Grey. Others think she could be Mayday Parker (Spider-Girl), Rachel Summers, Madelyne Pryor, Hope Summers, or even Shathra, a spider-wasp deity. The theories multiply daily.
Hulk’s Involvement and Savage Hulk Rumors
Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner appears in the trailers, seemingly tasked with explaining Parker’s black eyes and wrist webs. Fans speculate this is the return of Savage Hulk, as the trailers show a larger, angrier Banner. Some believe Spider-Man will fight the Hulk before discovering the real enemy—perhaps a body-hopping villain inside Hulk’s mind.
Miles Morales and Villain Speculation
Rumors of Miles Morales joining the MCU persist, despite Sony retaining the character for its Oscar-winning animated universe. Tom Holland has stated that no one has guessed the real villain. Candidates include Jean Grey, Mister Negative, The Jackal, Mister Sinister, or William Metzger—an obscure anti-mutant zealot who would explain the X-Men-themed clues in the trailers.
Internet Frenzy and False Rumors
As with No Way Home, some fans may have correctly deduced the plot, but thousands of false rumors will confuse everyone until opening night. Marvel’s strategy of teasing without confirming appears to be fueling the frenzy intentionally.
