A sober rave will take place in Newcastle city centre on the morning of Saturday, September 12, the day before the Great North Run. The Rant & Ramble Rave is set to take over Boiler Shop, known as the Newcastle home of Bingo's Bingo, with Sam Mitcham on the decks and Romi Foxx on live drums.
The event will begin with a pre-rave walk before attendees hit the dancefloor. Doors open at 9am, the walk starts at 9.30am, and the rave itself kicks off at 10am. Tickets are priced at £11.88, and all ages are permitted.
Great North Run weekend festivities
The rave arrives as preparations continue for the 13.1-mile Newcastle to South Shields road race, which returns on Sunday, September 13. The event, described as the world's best half marathon, has been held every year since 1981, apart from 2020 due to Covid, and this year marks its 45th anniversary.
Recent announcements for the race include a new Great North Run medal featuring designs by Newcastle artist Mul, as well as a lineup of celebrity runners including Traitors winner Rachel Duffy, singer Joe McElderry, football pundit Chris Kamara, This Morning host Ben Shephard, and former Sunderland manager Peter Reid.
Open to all
Organisers say everyone is welcome, whether running the Great North Run, supporting someone who is, or simply wanting to experience the coffee rave. The event is designed to get people geared up for the big race without the worry of nursing a hangover the next day.
