Rupert Grint is set to reprise his role as Ron Weasley in the stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The 38-year-old actor will appear at New York City’s Lyric Theatre from February 2 until May 30, marking his first time playing the character in 15 years.
Following Tom Felton’s Return
The announcement comes after Tom Felton revealed last November that he would reprise Draco Malfoy in the Broadway production of the acclaimed play. The story is set 19 years after the final Harry Potter book, allowing Felton to portray an older version of his character. Felton is scheduled to leave the production in January, with Grint stepping in the following month.
A Full-Circle Moment
Speaking with the New York Times, Grint expressed his excitement about returning to the role. “I can't wait to meet him again in this stage of life,” he said. “There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron's shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new.”
In the play, an older Ron is married to Hermione. The New York production is an abridged version of the original two-part play that opened in London a decade ago. The shorter single play is set to open in the West End on October 9.
