Rockstar Games has issued a rare public statement addressing the recent GTA 6 gameplay leaks, describing the situation as 'heartbreaking' for the development team. The statement comes after a week of silence from the studio and one day before the game's Extended Look is set to debut on Netflix.
Leaks and the Cyberleek connection
Over the past week, a total of 14 gameplay videos from GTA 6 have leaked ahead of its scheduled launch on November 19, 2026. A group or individual going by the name Cyberleek appears to have a playable build of the game and has been releasing clips daily. The leaks are supposedly in protest of Rockstar not releasing the game on a disc, though the leaker has also been requesting funding via cryptocurrency to continue posting clips.
Rockstar's response
In the statement, Rockstar acknowledged the impact of the leaks on the team. The studio said: 'It would be an understatement to say that having videos of GTA 6 gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.'
The statement continued: 'We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has – from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know.'
Rockstar also addressed the upcoming Extended Look, saying: 'We are very excited for everyone to see the extended look tomorrow. It has taken longer than we wanted to get it ready, but as with everything we do, we know we need to exceed your expectations, and we are determined to deliver at the level you expect and deserve.'
Looking ahead to November
The studio acknowledged that spoilers may impact the intended game experience but urged fans to wait for the full release. 'While it is unfortunate that the intended game experience may now be impacted by some spoilers, we hope that everyone will wait a bit longer to experience the game for themselves on November 19,' the statement said.
The statement concluded by thanking 'everyone in the community' who 'reached out with messages of support', adding: 'Ultimately, we are making this game for you, and without you, we would not have the privilege of making games.'
The apologetic tone marks a notable shift for Rockstar, acknowledging that its prolonged silence may have contributed to the situation. The statement also serves as reassurance that GTA 6 remains on track for its November release. The Extended Look is set to debut on Netflix on August 27 at 8pm BST, before arriving on YouTube six hours later.
