Terri-Ann Nunns, a former participant on Channel 5's Rich House, Poor House, has revealed that the production company provides the budgets for the show, not the families themselves. The programme swaps the lives of two families from opposite ends of the wealth spectrum for seven days.
How the budget works
Speaking on Instagram, Nunns explained that each family shares their bank statements and financial details with the production team. The production company then supplies the money to the other family, so participants do not spend their own money.
Nunns, from Doncaster, swapped her five-bedroom house for a council house in the same town. She grew up in a council house and had struggled financially before building a successful diet and lifestyle business, which gave her a weekly budget of £1,200 during filming.
Personal experience
Nunns found the experience "a doddle," having been a single mum in a two-bedroom flat. She wanted to show her children, who had grown up in luxury, what life was like for others. Her business earned £500,000 a year, and she even bought Kylie Minogue's old Range Rover.
After the show, her business collapsed and her marriage ended, but she has since documented rebuilding her career on social media.
