Public told not to panic as Netflix drama films at Parliament

The public has been told not to panic as actors dressed as armed police officers simulate emergency incidents around Parliament this weekend.

Bad Wolf, the production company behind shows such as Doctor Who and Industry, is filming scenes for a new Netflix drama around the Palace of Westminster and the River Thames on Saturday and Sunday.

New Netflix drama The Lords' Day

The show is called The Lords' Day and is adapted from the Michael Dobbs novel about a siege at the Houses of Parliament during the State Opening. Damson Idris is said to be starring in the six-part political action thriller.

A Parliament spokesperson said: “A licensed film production is taking place on and around parts of the Parliamentary Estate over the weekend.

“Members of the public may see actors portraying armed police officers, specialist vehicles and simulated incidents as part of the filming.

“These activities are part of a controlled and authorised production, and there is no incident or emergency on the Parliamentary Estate.”

Filming locations and past productions

Specialist vehicles will also be used during filming. Signs have been put up to let passersby and tourists know what is happening.

Palace of Westminster authorities rarely approve filming inside the iconic building. But the Houses of Parliament exterior and grounds have featured in a number of productions over the years, including Darkest Hour, Suffragette and Anatomy of a Scandal.
