Pokémon Pokopia has surpassed 5 million copies sold on Nintendo Switch 2, achieving a 21% attach rate and becoming the second best-selling game on the console, according to a press release from Nintendo.
Sales milestone and attach rate
The Pokémon spin-off, which launched on March 5, has sold over 5 million copies in 'just over four months'. This places it behind Mario Kart World (15.39 million) but ahead of Donkey Kong Bananza (4.78 million), which launched in July last year.
With the Switch 2's install base at 23.68 million, the 21% attach rate is notably high for a new console. The game's success is particularly striking given its low profile before launch, suggesting strong word of mouth and critical acclaim have driven sales.
Sequel prospects and expansion plans
This performance practically confirms a sequel will be developed. Recent reports indicate that the next mainline Pokémon games, Winds and Waves, will feature two new directors replacing Scarlet and Violet's Shigeru Ohmori, who co-directed Pokopia. It is possible Ohmori has shifted his focus to the spin-off's future.
Pokémon Pokopia continues to receive support, with the recent expansion Bubbly Basin now available. Two more DLC drops are planned as part of the Expansion Pass, slated for late 2026 and an unspecified time next year.
Pokémon Bank shutdown and Home updates
Nintendo has announced that Pokémon Bank will shut down its servers on February 25, 2027 at 7pm PST in the US, which translates to February 26 at 2am GMT. Pokémon Bank, launched on the Nintendo 3DS, allowed players to deposit or withdraw Pokémon via online boxes, compatible with DS and 3DS games such as Black and White, X and Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and Sun and Moon.
The shutdown follows the launch of Pokémon Home, which replaced Pokémon Bank on Switch, iOS, and Android, and the closure of the 3DS eShop in 2023. Players are advised to move their Pokémon to Pokémon Home before the shutdown, though this requires a premium subscription (£2.69 for one month). A free basic plan is available but with limited features and storage.
To offset the news, Nintendo has announced that the Switch ports of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen will receive Pokémon Home support from October 2026, allowing transfers to the service and other titles. An update to Pokémon Home in October will also expand storage for premium subscribers from 6,000 to 9,000 Pokémon.
