Comedian Peter Kay caused chaos as he gatecrashed a live BBC weather report on North West Tonight on Wednesday, leaving presenter Molly Brewer visibly frazzled.
The 53-year-old Phoenix Nights star pulled the stunt while promoting a fundraising gig. As Brewer began her forecast, Kay slowly wandered into shot, shouting "Hey!" as he moved in front of the yellow weather warning sign on the green screen.
Chaotic forecast
"We've got a Peter as well," Brewer pointed out, smiling, before continuing: "So yes, we've got thunderstorms as well tomorrow."
Kay then sat on the floor, saying: "Go on Molly, I'm sitting here. I'll not disturb you." Brewer promised to give him a "go with the clicker in a moment" as she remained professional and spoke about showers and wind in the north west.
But Kay wasn't done. He covered England's highest market town with his arm, saying: "I'm covering Buxton, they won't mind!" As Brewer mentioned showers, hail and lightning causing havoc, Kay threw his hands over his head and exclaimed: "It's chucking it down, Molly, it's chucking it down!"
El Nino moment
"It's spitting it down," she laughed, as he yelled: "It's El Nino, Molly, it's El Nino!"
"Yes, very intense thunderstorms possible tomorrow," she continued before offering Kay a chance with the clicker. Leaping at the opportunity, he quipped: "What clicker? Oh this clicker! What do I push?" He then started frantically clicking, and the screen returned to the beginning. "You didn't tell me what to push!" he cried. "What are we doing now?"
By this point, Brewer appeared frazzled as Kay stood up to join her, telling viewers there would be "even more disruption than this forecast, maybe a bit more chaotic as well".
Nod to the past
Interrupting again, Kay told viewers: "Look at that, you know what? We've had it lucky. Every morning clear blue skies and sunshine, and now? Autumn. Get your central heating on now!"
"Couldn't have said it better myself," said Brewer, clearly relieved the segment had ended. "I don't know how Dianne managed, I'm not gonna lie."
Brewer was referring to Kay famously gatecrashing Dianne Oxberry's weather forecast on BBC North West Tonight in 2011. Kay had similarly crawled in front of Oxberry's screen after appearing on the show to discuss his comedy shows. Oxberry, who tragically died aged 51 in 2019 after a cancer diagnosis, had told him: "I will come to one of your concerts and come on stage and just creep in alongside you."
