Overwatch has released its Season 4 update, which includes a significant overhaul to the Battle Pass system. The new system allows players to choose from multiple branching paths instead of a linear track, giving them more control over which cosmetics they unlock first. This change means players can prioritize skins for heroes they use most, while the total number of unlocks remains the same.
New Features in Battle Pass
Blizzard has added a unique twist by letting players 'hack' the final reward at the end of a tree, swapping it for another cosmetic from a pool of Item Shop items. This hack is limited to once per Battle Pass, but it offers more value for the paid content.
These improvements are minor compared to what's planned for mid-season. Blizzard has announced that Battle Passes will become permanent purchases, eliminating the pressure to complete all tracks before the season ends. This means older Battle Passes will return, and players will have the chance to finish any they previously left incomplete.
Permanent Battle Passes
Players will be able to choose which Battle Pass they allocate XP towards, ensuring no rewards are lost. However, there is no confirmation yet on which Battle Passes will return or if only specific ones will be available.
This feature mirrors a similar one introduced in Halo Infinite, which was praised for allowing players to revisit past content. The change is expected to give players another opportunity to unlock higher-tier cosmetics they thought were gone forever.
