Overmono played their biggest headline gig to date at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, a Unesco World Heritage Site, marking the release of their second album. The Welsh duo, brothers Tom and Ed Russell, brought their anthemic, big-room sound to the outdoor setting, with lasers dancing on the baroque architecture.
Club intimacy vs outdoor spectacle
Translating the intimacy of the club to a large outdoor stage proved tricky. The sound was clear but not quite loud enough, and some drums were too quiet to fill the space, leaving the crowd hungering for bigger drops. Despite this, the Russells bounced around merrily on a warm evening, celebrating their rapid rise to the Radio 1 dance mainstream.
High-energy moments
Freedom 2, their 2023 collaboration with Joy Orbison and Kwengface, added momentum and much-needed bass rumble. Beat poet John Joseph Holt joined for new track Knight in Shining Prada, his stage presence helping the synths carry further. Their remix of the Streets' Turn the Page was more cinematic and emo than the original, lighting up the crowd.
The feelgood finale, Good Lies, featured an irresistible chorus that bounced off the Grade I-listed windows.
